We promote eco-friendly travel and therefore primarily offer travel by the most environmentally friendly means of transportation, the coach, and refrain from air travel. Air travel emits more than six times the amount of CO2 equivalents per kilometer travelled compared to coaches. All journeys in resort are also made by bus.

The majority of our groups spend their time in the premium ski resort Snow Space Salzburg. In addition to a first-class skiing experience, the ski resort is committed to sustainability and has set an ambitious goal. Climate neutrality is to be achieved by the winter season 2025/26. Already now, the resort relies on 100% renewable energy, the use of HVO fuels for snow grooming machines, and offers free public transport options from the entire state of Salzburg for skiing guests.

For our Obertauern groups; Obertauern is also making notable sustainability efforts, especially through its use of environmentally friendly energy. The entire ski resort is primarily heated using biomass from the Obertauern heating plant, which supports green energy at high altitudes, even under challenging weather conditions. Additionally, all the electricity in the resort comes from Salzburg AG, a local energy supplier focused on sustainable power generation.

When selecting hotels to collaborate with, we prioritise not only the highest quality but also proximity to the ski resort to keep daily travel as short as possible. All hotels we use are located within a radius of 25 miles from the ski area. We are particularly proud of our partnership with the Hotel Pass Lueg. The energy used there is generated from the hotel's own hydroelectric power plant. This often results in an energy surplus that is then fed into the Salzburg state power grid.

To satisfy your appetite during ski days, a number of mountain huts are available. A large portion of our guests is hosted at the Kreistenalm, which places great emphasis on regional products. Another partner restaurant is the Straßalm, a family-run traditional restaurant at 1530m. Here, too, emphasis is placed on quality, freshness, and regional produce. The majority of their meat comes from their very own agriculture, a small-scale farm just 2.5 miles away.

Environmental protection starts small. As the days grow longer and the first rays of spring sunshine melt the snow, ski instructors from Skischule Wolfgang Pfeifhofer set out on a trash collection event to clear the ski slopes of winter season debris.

All of this happens on a purely voluntary basis, and they deserve our utmost respect for it.

To make commuting to work in the ski resort as environmentally friendly as possible for our ski instructors, they can easily arrive via the public ski bus provided by Snow Space Salzburg. The ski bus network transports our team from the shared staff accommodation in the town centre to the ski resort in just 15 minutes.

Of course, recycling takes place in our offices, in the ski rental, and in the staff accommodation.

Ski rental equipment that is no longer required is passed on to a ski rental shop in Slovenia to extend its useful life.

Office supplies such as printer cartridges are returned to the manufacturer for recycling. Household waste and other office waste are also properly separated for recycling.

WhoSki.com is an award winning, UK-based circular economy business with a sustainable ideology, driving change in the winter sports sector and keeping ski wear in active use. Every time someone sells and buys via their peer-to-peer marketplace, one less item pollutes the environment or is repurposed. In addition, 10% of WhoSki’s commission is donated to award-winning teenage mental health charity, stem4.

As part of our sustainability policy, we are delighted to promote WhoSki to our school groups so that they can consider buying used ski wear before new. This not only helps the environment but gives families a small financial boost – saving money on ski wear and selling their own unwanted kit, so making a few pennies too.
